Besides the point and fact of the matter that they all gather around and drink booze during the entire technical maintenance down time. What else happens during TMs? Do MT sort through their database and clean up old unused brutes? Does that mean old nicknames would be made available?

As far as I know: database maintenance (indexing, etc), tournament preparation (e.g. the more brutes are registered for the tournament, the longer TM will last).
