I am currently using a router/modem provided by my Internet Provider, but I want to get rid of it. Can I simply disconnect that router/modem they gave me, buy a new router (Linksys or Netgear) and then plug the new router up in place of the old one and still get internet?

Maybe.

It depends on your ISP.

Some will lock down their routers and make it difficult to switch, others don't.

Mine makes it very difficult .... but not impossible with the right research. Wink
