| This is my method to retrieve brutes out of a DB and import into Excel. Other's may have different methods and maybe easier. Post them! 1-in the bc folder you wish to export from, just open the “brutal-combo.jar” file 2-When opened select “Fichier” tab and select “Exporter”. Pick the folder you wish to save to and name it but with .txt in it. ie: name.txt.(you can close BC now) 3-Open Excel 4-Now select open file, and in the window navigate to the folder where the txt was saved. In the “File of Type” dropdown window” select “Text” and the file will appear you made. Select the file 5-A import wizard will appear 6-“Delimited” should already be selected. Click “Next” 7-Add a check to “Simicolon” click “Next” 8-click “Finish” Now to Sort: 1-click on the “letter” u wish to sort and that will highlight the column to sort.(ie; F for agile) 2-At the top in the “Data” tab select Sort, In the window select “sort” Then Sort By” click Descending and then ok. Now let the hunt begin. Tip: data is for level 80. For receiving a skill or weapon it is by level up to level 80. If the brute gains a skill or weapon after lvl 80 it will not be shown.
When you find a brute to look at; Copy the name in Column “A” and overwrite it onto another brutes name in his cell and enter. When done save as a xls file This was done with Excel 2003. Your’s may difer.

Well, about my method... I have written a small Excel (2003) tool that automatically imports the BC-export into Excel and automatically analyzes the data in order to show a scatter plot with promising brutes that are highlighted. There are some other features as well to make the reviewing process a bit faster. It turned out to be quite useful for me in order to search through large amounts of brutes... The only problem is that I've not written a real instruction manual. If a few people here are interested I may write a small instruction manual and make the tool available... and I will need time to write an instruction manual. Below you can find some screenshots. - Spoiler:
Main user interface:Scatter plot:Raw data with brute dispatcher:

| Ok, here is finally the instruction manual and the Brutal Combo database analysis tool (link at the end of the message). I tried to make the manual as comprehensive as possible in order to anticipate any question so that individual support shouldn't be required at all. Most likely if you carefully read the manual you will find the answer to all of your questions. The manual is too long for being displayed here in the post itself but it can instead be downloaded from the link as a pdf file. LINK: zip file containing the PDF manual and the EXCEL database analysis tool: http://sioc.webs.com/MyBrute-ToolPack.zip After you have opened that hyperlink, in order to download the file locate "Request download ticket" on the page and click it, then click on "Download". Screenshots: - Spoiler:
Main user interface:Scatter plot:Raw data with brute dispatcher: Current versions:- Brutal Combo database analysis tool: 1.02 - Instruction manual: 1.00
EDIT: In case you want to search for any target level you may try the MyBrute Search Engine that was released after this. I strongly suggest to use the MyBrute Search Engine instead of this tool which is now obsolete. |

| I am playing with the tool I am impressed with it. But I still have lots to learn.
Love the feature of showing the cell of a promising brute.
I used your tool in an old db I have and had went through. I missed some GOOD brutes.

Excel for Mac. And cross fingers Microsoft did a good job with Mac VBA compatibility ;-) But for sure the part with Firefox won't work since Firefox won't be installed in c:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\ or c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\ (moreover shell32.exe doesn't exist on mac, see the VBA code in the last section of the instruction manual).

| Lol, then you should ask Bill and Steve (or is it now Steve & Steve...?) to have a drink together in order to study this particular issue... ;-) ... just to say it won't work until Microsoft and Apple enhance the compatibility of their products. Nothing I can do.

| Btw w13winni released yesterday a rather interesting BC database analysis tool on the French forum: http://forumlabrute.forumactif.org/trucs-et-astuces-f26/labrute-search-engine-new-t10439.htm One of the big advantage of this tool is that for the stat points analysis the target level is not set at 80 but it is a free parameter (and that's a real kick-ass feature). For example, you can ask: - what are the brutes that have untouchable and implaccable before level 80?
- out of these brutes, what are the brutes that have more than 150 agility at level 200?
Moreover it doesn't seem to have a restriction on the size of the database (no 65'000 rows limitation or such) and it is a plain executable (doesn't rely on M$ Excel for example). However it has imo a few backdrafts as well: - you better have to understand French...,
- it seems that the threshold level for abilities is still set at 80 (based on the BC export),
- it can take just an enormous amount of time to do searches by stats (even if one starts from the restricted set obtained at first step),
- it doesn't allow to look for filters on the sum of all stat points or the number of abilities,
- it doesn't allow to do ranking-like searches like "what are the highest agility brutes that..." etc, but only threshold-like searches "what are the brutes with agility above..." (however refining searches should restrict to smaller found sets in order to easily do such a ranking),
- it is seriously lacking a user friendly interface.
Anyway, the free target level parameter for the stat points is just a great feature.

| Oh yes. You have to register first on the French forum in order to see the threads. Here is the direct download link (it may become obsolete if w13winni updates the link): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W0SXPEN7 | |
