| Hey Bear, can I expand the alt section to as large as I want?
I was thinking of making a completely unique list in the alt section then just switch every other day, that way I would not run into this problem.
Or maybe this could be something easy for you to code into the script. For example after a run, add something to the fight.xls to let you know what table the fight was based off of, then on the next run, automatically switch to the next table based on that data.

| Yup ... you can add as many alts as you want.
Just follow the format in the code.
And yes .... it would be relatively easy to add what you suggest at the end as well.

| Hmmm.
Thats odd.
Never seen that behaviour before.
My new version may stop that happening. But if it only happens sometimes, it's hard to say whats happening there .... I think I'd need to see it to debug it.
We'll see if the new version fixes it first. :)

| Bob, the alt list did not run last night. Have you ever verified that this worked? The reason I ask is because I notice that after you read in the array of opp (after you initialize it), after you set the condition for the alt list you to true, you never re-read the array for the new names.
Then again, my programing is a little rusty, so I could be completely off base.
Any ideas on why the alt list did not work?
Thanks | |

| You need to select the option ....
What version are you running?
At the start .... it should ask if you want to enter run data .... click OK.
Then it asks if you want to run alts .... enter "Y" if you do.
Then it asks if you want it to run on a timer .....
It initialises all the normal opponents first. Then if you elect to run alts, it overwites 9 of them with alt opponents (or more if you've added them but I only put 9 in) ....

| I am running 1.4 of the script. I see where you are setting the option for the alt array, but I do not see where you are re reading the array after the option is set.
So looking at your code as I understand it. You declare the array, set the values, prompt for alt and then continue on with the script with out re setting the values for alt.

| lol I just looked at that version of the code and I've totally borked it up! I'm an idiot! .... lol lol lol OK. This is fixed in the new version which I will upload tomorrow hopefully. But if you want to fix it in this version you need to ..... 1. In QTP - go into Expert View (tabs down the bottom keyword/expert) so that you can see the code properly. 2. Block copy lines 83 - 93 - Quote :
- If alts = TRUE Then
opp(1,1) = "test1000" opp(1,2) = "puw18" opp(1,3) = "upo2" opp(2,1) = "test1000" opp(2,2) = "puw18" opp(2,3) = "upo2" opp(3,1) = "test1000" opp(3,2) = "puw18" opp(3,3) = "upo2" End If 3. Paste them in between lines 109 and 111 (and delete the original lines 83-93 once done ... although thats not essential) And that'll fix it in the short term. D'oh! Can't believe I released that! Schoolboy error! .... Thanks for spotting it!

| Bear one more item you may want to change before uploading your new script.
If the user sets a time for the script to run, you put it into a constant loop that pegs the processor until it runs. I added a wait (30) statement in the loop to correct for that one.

| Fair do's if you are leaveing it doing something else as well I suppose.
I never am so it's never really bothered me.
Will stick a small wait in there though .... won't do any harm.
:)
Oh .... I think it was you that suggested a rotating list of brutes so it alternates them daily? Just to let you know, reasonable idea, but I'm not going to do it for 2 reasons:
1. I can't be bothered finding, and more importantly - maintaining, two full lists of weak brutes.
and
2. If you want to, you can pretty much run it manually this way anyway using the alts option (once I fix it .... lol). You would just need to expand the area where it sets the opponents if alts were selected.
This is the sort of stuff I want in terms of feedback though. It all helps! :)
Will deffo try and get the latest version up tonight. The error handling has been improved even further and, as far as I can tell, it is now catching and countering all the inevitable IE crashes. The last 3 days have all produced perfect runs of 1500+ pupils for me. :)

| It can't create the excel object within the code by the sound of it.
Do you have MS excel installed?
And is the ActiveX addin enabled within QTP (tick-box in a popup when QTP is first run)?

| Need to be full excel in order to be declared as a working object in the code.
So yes, you need to put in the full version.
Any version *should* work. Mine is ancient. 2002 I think. If you want to stay close to that, go for the 2003 version if it's available to you.

Unfortunately not. QTP is heavy duty corporate testing software. Only the very latest versions support FF .... and I don't have those. Not easy to track down good copies of QTP. Even then I'm not sure that the FF addin for QTP is actually all that great. I don't think it works on the most recent versions of FF3. QTP is aimed at the corporate world .... where IE still dominates.

| ^^^ Not much I can tell you without some details of the error message.
Although, it sounds like it can't identify your browser.
The Vista + IE8 combo could be something to do with that.
I don't have Vista, and I don't have IE8 ..... so it's not something I can replicate. If I can't replicate it, and I don't have any details of the error, it's kind of hard to fix it!

| ok, i ran it a few more times and a couple of those times it gave me this error: Line (159): "Browser("application version:=internet explorer.*").Navigate "http://mybrute.com/"".
but now its gone back to just windows giving me the message that qtp has stopped working. i think my problem is similar to lone wolf. has he gotten it to work?
